Originally from Ohio, Mara Matteson did her teacher training at the University of New Mexico and taught for the Bernalillo Public Schools for 16 years. In 2004–2005, she took Elementary Montessori training at the Washington Montessori Institute in Baltimore. She earned her New Mexico Administrative license in 2006. KCLC hired Mara in 2014 to administer its first grant from the Administration of Native Americans (ANA), then to be the English-speaking teacher when the Elementary classroom opened in 2015. In 2017, she left the classroom and became KCLC’s administrator.
